THE CALL OF ABRAM
At the beginning of Genesis 12, we are introduced to Abram who is called by God. “Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you: Genesis 12:1 “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” Hebrews 11:8
The emphasis was to leave his city of Ur in the country of Chaldea, and to separate from his family accentuates the need for division between the two seeds. He is to remove himself from anything to do with the ‘world’ and turn his attention fully to God. Abram never waivers in his faith in the word of God. We must do the same. Our calling could also mean separation from friends and family. Matthew 10:34-38 & 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 “come out from their midst and be separate… and I will welcome you”.
